Win a Classic!
Chair Paul Cotton (in absentia, but via a prerecorded tape delivered by Janet Mitchell--rumor has it that Warren was off on his sled) reported that we had a good weekend, considering the weather, at WHEB's Motorcycle Mania at the Whittemore Center, University of N.H. last weekend. Thanx to members Paul Cotton, Warren Mitchell, Roger and Pam Landry, Chet, Jeff, and Kellie Cilley, Steve Loughlin, Kathy and Patty Jeanne Calvin, Phil Bonafide, Jim and Arlene Fortier, Joe Adrignola, Michael Bastraw, Larry and Rosemary Murphy for the roadshow. Our gratitude to Rick Sullivan and everyone at WHEB for geeting us into the show. Check out their website at
www.wheb.com/motorcycle.html for their coverage of the show. Next up is the Lakes Region Boatshow, Winnipesaukee Expo Center, Laconia, March 7-9. You may check out the complete raffle schedule via the link at the bottom of each bulletin. We have some 3-day shows coming up where we really need everyone to step up...so plan ahead.

Don't Show Up
Pres. Larry Murphy reminds all that we will meet Monday next, March 3, and until next January, back at Pheasant Ridge Country Club. We bid 'bye to our hosts at One Mill Plaza, Martin, Lord, and Osman for keeping us out of the elements.

Key Club
Chair Jim Fortier will be taking a request from the Key Club to help subsidize their 13 members who are going to the District Convention to the Boards next week.

Acting Pres. Joe
Pres. Larry Murphy advises that he will not be at next week's meeting. V.P. Joe Collie will preside with an iron gavel--hopefully Teflon-coated. On the agenda will be taking nominations to fill the posts vacated by Nate Robertson, Dan Fisher, and Dick Breton; to say, Vice-President, Director, and Assistant Secretary/Treasurer. After nominations, the first two positions will be voted on by the membership. Any member interested in throwing their hat into the ring should contact a Boards member.

Reading Is FUNdamental
Chair Joe Adrignola (who, contrary to last week's Kronikle, reported last week) passed around thank-you cards and photos from our visit to Elm Street School. Our next shows are Wednesday, March 5, 9:30a, Woodland Heights Elementary School and Friday, March 7, 2:00p, Pleasant Street School. Signed up for Woodland Heights are Joe Adrignola and Collie, Kathy Calvin, and Don Nelson. We could use some more members on this one. Please sign up by next Monday. Joe Adrignola and Collie, Kathy Calvin, Michael Bastraw, and Don and Sue Nelson are on board for Pleasant Street School. We could use a little more help on that one also. For members who have not participated in this program yet are missing a good bet. It's a chance for some real hands-on community service and sometimes you get snacks.

Guest Speaker
This writer introduced Dir. of Practice Management and Healthlink Sharon Swanson, Lakes Region General Hospital to the club. She keeps the stats and writes grants, among other things, for the Dental Resource Center. Dir. Swanson presented print-outs of the activity of the Dental Program over the last five years and the grant proposal data that is submitted to the State for their quarterly reports to gain the $30,000 grant we enjoy. She pointed out that the recent increase in patients-seen is due to the addition of four examination chairs (cost: $131,000), externs from Tufts Dental School, and additional hygienists. Cost of in-school exams have gone from $10 to $12 plus the cost of dental sealants. The reason why our club's demands for funding has gone down is that children are qualifying through other programs including Medicaid. One problem we are still running into is that parental permission is required for examination and follow-up care and many are not giving it because of the seeming stigma of charitable support. The hospital feels confident that hygienists and dentists will be available from graduating classes to fill openings as necessary. Dir. Swanson assured us that they are current with child dental care, 'though adult care is still very much underserved. Dick Breton pointed out that local dentists are still willing to help as needed but have not been called upon. Now there are two supervising dentists who come in two days each and another who comes in one day. It comes to light that there are some things that are falling through the cracks where our club would be able to address. The program has an ongoing need for toothbrushes (four-per-year is recommended), and books and other educational material. For more info on the Dental Resource Center go to
www.lrgh.org.
