Motorcycle raffle Chair Paul Cotton advises that we will not be attending the August event at Rochester Fair. So our first roadshow will be the Grass Drags in October.

Interclub
Chair Warren Mitchell took the final head-count for our interclub to Berlin scheduled for Tuesday, July 22, with a July 29 raindate.

Guest Speaker
Reported by Immediate Past Pres. Phil Bonafide
After our regular meeting we reconvened with Lt. Ed Darling at Lakes Region Mutual Fire Aid/Communications Division who provided a PowerPoint presentation and tour of the dispatch facility. Lt. Ed Darling advises that the dispatch was established in 1951 with a central communications center in the basement of the Belknap County Courthouse in 1971. In 1999 they moved to their new facility and share it with 911 Bureau of Communications. The potential exists to run 911 from Concord north from there. The dispatch serves 37 departments, 33 fire companies, and 4 Emergency Medical Services companies. They cover 35 communities (all of Belknap County plus 1400 sq. miles). 2002 saw them handle 18,447 incidents with an average of 50.5 calls per day. Their workload has had an average annual increase of 5-7% since 1972. The busiest stretch they had was the ice storm of 1998 with 700 calls in four days. The operation is funded through property taxes and is administered by a Board of Directors of 35 fire chiefs. For more information go to
