Guest Speaker
This writer introduced Chief Tom Oetinger, Laconia Police Dept., to the club. He has been with the department for 23 years and almost a year as Chief. He is still in the midst of technical issues surrounding the move to the new station. The new building has about twice the space as the Winston Bldg., better environmental engineering and security, and larger work areas. They also now have a Community Room that will be available to the public for meetings as needed. Bonnette, Page, and Stone is still finishing up some of their work and the landscaping remains to be finished. The Chief is planning an open house in September. Violent crimes and domestic violence calls are up from the previous year. Several community services officers have been hired to free up the regular staff's time. A victims services program has been established. He will be looking for part-time volunteers to act as clerks to act as a receptionist and answer phones. The department is expecting 900-1500 Hells Angels to be in the area this weekend for their national run. Most of their activities will be on their Filmore Ave. property where they have permits for bands and fireworks. Laconia Police's payroll includes 35 officers and 10 civilians and has a fleet of 14 vehicles with 7 on the road at any given time. For more information go to
