Sr. Member Ed Chertok received a request from Eagle Scout Cory Cosgrove, grandson of Past Pres. Hal Gunn to participate in a veterans' memorial in Highland, Utah, featuring a statue of his grandfather. Gunn is being so honored for an incident that happened almost 60 years ago. Hal save the life of his friend, Woodrow (Woody) Morgan, a fellow pilot and prisoner of war in Germany. On one of Hitler's death marches, Hal and his other friend, Dee Butler, noticed that their companion was missing. Strong and brave men were dropping in the deep snow from exhaustion and exposure. Hal found Woody asleep in a grove of trees where he would have frozen to death if he had stayed. Hal and Dee picked him up and dragged him along the trail with the other prisoners until he was fully revived and had the strength to walk on his own. Any donations made payable to Highland Veteran's Memorial Fund may be sent to Highland City, 5378 West 10400 North, Highland, UT, 84003.Invited
