The Boards voted not to handle the funds for the Emergency Services respite project.Guest Speaker
This writer introduced Gunstock Recreation Area's General Manager, Greg Goddard. He stated that the hot issue is new skier creation and retention prompted by a study by the National Ski Area Initiative that indicates visitors are aging faster than the general population. To help pinpoint how Gunstock may attract new visitors and keep them coming back, a "Secret Shopper" was hired. This industry-savvy individual visited the Area masquerading as a first time skier. He made note of matters good and bad, big and small. In light of his findings, Goddard states that ski class size has been reduced to six; Lesson and Lift packages are now in place; visitor facilities are being restructured; and a new building is on the boards for class space, lockers, rest rooms, etc. This past year was their "best ever" generating $8 million, $1.2 million from summer activities. Sr. Member Ed Chertok reminded us that until 1974 our club sponsored a ski bus to get kids to the Area on weekends.G.M. Greg Goddard, Gunstock Recreation Area and Pres. Phil Bonafide
