Happy Dollars
Phil Bonafide came up with $3 for Paul Cotton taking over the motorcycle raffle so his trip to Washington, D.C. with his father, aged 88, was guilt-free. He was able to visit one in law school there and his other son going to medical school at Pennsylvania State who just made the Honor Society. Jeff Cilley came up with a buck for purchasing a new Chesapeake Retriever. Nate Robertson had a dollar for winning the 50/50; Chet Cilley for the Diamond Supplement's publication next week. Dianne was happy that soccer season is over and that her two son's were undefeated at the Middle School.

Immediate Past Pres. Phil Bonafide is just one happy guy.

Don't Show Up
Pres. Larry Murphy advises that we will not meet on Monday, November 11 because of Veterans' Day. We will meet on Tuesday, November 12. He will also not be at the Monday, November 2 meeting. V.P. Joe Collie will preside.

R.I.F.
Chair Joe Adrignola thanked Chet Cilley, Don Nelson, Kathy Calvin, Joe Collie, Nate Robertson, Roger Webster, and Ed Chertok for helping with the Reading Is FUNdamental appearance at Elm Street School, Wednesday last.

Win a Classic!
Chair Paul Cotton reports we raised $720 at the Grass Drags, Laconia Airport. As Saturday was rained-out, we were pretty much on par with last year's $1675 for two days. He thanked Don and Sue Nelson, Jim Fortier, and Joe Collie helping out with sales. Also the motorcycle is back at Laconia Savings Bank where the money envelope is already beginning to fill. Paul Cotton will be away for 2-3 weeks but Pres. Larry Murphy has tickets if anyone needs them.

Guest Speaker
This writer introduced Ernie Bolduc, retired and running the family farm, who presented Stinging but Sweet: Honey Bees. He has been an amateur bee-keeper for many years and works 2-4 hives. Each hive can hold anywhere between 20,000 and 80,000 bees depending on the number of levels. The majority of bees of non-reproductive female workers, with a few male drones, and only one queen to each hive. The workers gather food and water, guard the hive entrance, and build the cone structure in each frame. If it weren't for insects, there would be no pollination of fruits and vegetables. Honey bees are responsible for 67% of this work. The queen lays over 1000 eggs per day. The workers' lifespan is only 42 days--cause of death being worn-out wings which are always in motion. Queens live for several years. The bees can fly up to 15 m.p.h. and form large swarms when they migrate to set up another hive. Ernie passed out samples of the raw honey he takes from the hives. Even unpasteurized, honey does not spoil.
