How Do You Do, Ed Chertok?
Our most senior member, by age and not tenure, returned to the club after a relaxing and snow free winter down south. Ed Chertok was glad to be back in our good graces and was welcomed with a resounding version of the old Kiwanis favorite "How Do You Do? Ed says "he do well, thanks."

Roses are red ...violets are blue...I hope you look this good when you're 92!

Bike Rodeo Recap:

The annual Bike Rodeo was held this past weekend, Saturday May 10th, at Opechee Park in Laconia and the location proved to be a winner. We fitted 80 kids in new helmets and more than 60 kids had their bikes inspected for safety. Both these numbers represented substantial increases over the past few years. A special tip of the Kiwanis Kap to Pam Landry, who checked in all the kids and took the donations for helmets and gave them tickets for the raffle prize. Also, kudos to Dianne Roberts and Kathy Calvin, who fit all the children in their new helmets, with the exception of the two that Warren Mitchell attempted. Some thoughts on next year: more advertising, more food, more prizes. One of the great moments of the day came when Warren Mitchell and Joe Adrignola gave a 4 year old boy a bike. He did not have one, but his brothers did. Warren's granddaughter passed along the one she had just grown out of. Joe and Warren gave it to this boy and he was all smiles. The winner of the raffle bike was Samantha Horne from Laconia. Thanks to Piche's, Officer Kathleen Yale, and the S.A.D.D. group from Laconia High School.

The list of Kiwanians who helped on Saturday included:
Dianne Roberts, Kathy Calvin, Roger Landry (with Pam Landry), Warren Mitchell, Paul Cotton, Paul Normandin, Mike Marsh, Dick Metz, Denise Dow, Jim Fortier, Roger Webster, Phil Bonafide, Joe Adrignola, and Steve Loughlin.

Well done. We're already looking forward to next year's event!

More pictures of the Bike Rodeo are included at the lower part of this page.

Reading is FUNdamental:
Last week's RIF distribution at Elm Street School was a big hit with the kids. On hand were Joe Adrignola, Kathy Calvin, Joe Collie, Larry Murphy, and Don Nelson. The next RIF is scheduled for Friday, June 6th at Woodland Heights. More information coming soon.

Mahogany Row:
A round of applause was given to Brian Winslow, Dick Metz, and Mike Marsh. All three were absent last week when they were elected to office next year. Brian will be President, Dick President Elect, and Mike 2nd Vice President. Phil "here's my card" Bonafide said the moral of the story is "show up!"
Thanks to Brian, Dick, and Mike for taking on these leadership roles!

Salvation Army Luncheon:
A reminder to those who plan on attending the Salvation Army Civic Luncheon this week: the event is Thursday, May 15th at the Conference Center at the Lake Opechee Inn and Spa, formerly the Expo Center, and it starts at noon. We'll see you there!
