76 Trombones in the Big Parade...
Brian Winslow says the club could use someone to tow the trailer with the ATVs in the 4th of July Parade this Friday. Formation is at Garfield Street in Laconia at 12:30 and the parade will roll down Main Street at 1pm. Arlene Fortier and Larry Murphy will be selling tickets at the 4th of July Celebration at Opechee Park that night. If you can help out with the parade, please call Brian at 524-8444 or e-mail him by "clicking" here.
Hey Kiwanis...THANKS!
We received a "thank you" note from Mary Cass, a recipient of a Kiwanis Scholarship through Lakes Region Scholarship Foundation. She said thanks for chipping in as she attends Georgetown University. Perhaps she will learn what a Hoya is. Well done, Mary. Congratulations and you're welcome!

Happy Birthday Peter K:
The club sang Happy Birthday to Peter Karagianis celebrating birthday # 92.
Peter blows out all the candles...good thing he doesn't smoke!
Photo by W. Stephen LoughlinHappy Dollars:
Roger Webster gave 2 Happy Dollars: 1 for attending his 62nd class reunion and 1 for winning a door prize while he was there. Roger Landry gave 2 Happy Dollars: 1 for Ron Penn getting married this coming weekend and 1 because Roger Webster stopped talking. Kathy Calvin gave 1 for her recent trip in a boat in Niagara Falls. She got soaked! Ed Chertok gave $5 because Peter Karagianis had a birthday and Ed remembers Peter's store on Main Street years ago and because Dick Metz ran such a good Red Sox show at The Belknap Mill this past weekend. Larry Murphy gave 1 because he can't remember Peter's store on Main Street. Dianne Zawacki gave 3 Happy Dollars. 1 for attending Kiwanis, 1 for being named outstanding alumni at her high school and 1 for getting 2 scholarships toward her Master's Degree from Altrusa. Howard Bacon and Catherine Conatagiani each gave 1 for winning the 50/50. So we have 2 plus 2 plus 1 plus 5 plus 1 plus 3 plus 2 equals $16 collected tonight! Well done!

Fines:
Kathy Calvin was late. Steve Loughlin was, too. $0.50 was collected.Guest Speaker:
Our guest speaker was Jim L., who is entering his junior year at Laconia High School. He was recently named the Youth of the Year at the Boys and Girls Club of the Lakes Region. He received the honor in March, after only 2 years in the club. In April, he had to give a speech along with the other Youth of the Year Finalists in NH and in May was able to attend a Red Sox game 5 rows behind the dugout. The Sox won that day! He also received a trip to Concord and met with the governor, the state senate, and the house of representatives. The 99 Restaurant also gave him $99 to spend at the $99 and a $200 American Express gift card. Well done, Jim! Congratulations.
...and at the Boys and Girls Club:
After Jim L. spoke, Dianne Zawacki spoke about the Boys and Girls Club. She said they just started summer camp and had 80 kids in attendance today. Last year, they averaged 40 per day. The camp started today and runs through the summer. She said they are also looking to expand on the existing programs at the Boys and Girls Club. They have also started a support group for pregnant teens and new teenage moms that have already given birth. They had 4 in attendance last week. The Boys and Girls Club is also starting to become involved with the Sununu Youth Detention Center in Manchester, modeling this aspect of their program after a Hartford, CT facility. Things are busy at the Boys and Girls Club!
