Laconia’s Independence Day celebration commenced with a parade that began at Wyatt Park on South Main Street routing through downtown Laconia and ending at Opechee Park on North Main Street. The celebration at Opechee Park continued throughout the day with family fun, live concerts, NH Idol performances, and a gigantic fireworks display.

Motorcycle Update
Paul Cotton reports that he delivered the check to Motorcycle Winner, Madaline Decato, who took the cash option. Paul reports that the bike is back at Meredith Harley and for sale. Once the bike is sold, the money can then be added into our accounts. Expect weekly updates on the status of ‘The Bike.”

Nice shirt!
Dianne Zawacki modeled the new Teen Center Summer Camp “Official Camper” T-Shirts.  Our donation of $800 not only sponsored 10 kids to the camp for a week each, but garnered the club a logo on the back of each shirt, both for the campers and the staff members.  Thanks, Dianne. By the way…President Joe Collie has an XL shirt if anyone is interested. Too small for him…

Happy Birthday America!
Jim Fortier reports that the parade went well and the 4 th of July fireworks were the –quote—best the city has ever had. Warren Mitchell and Larry Murphy towed the trailer in the parade (see above picture) , Charlie had a hand in the fireworks, and Jim and Chet were on the City’s Celebration Committee. The weather cooperated and a good time was had by all. Well done! Larry Murphy informed the club that his famous…or should I say infamous…sister-in-law said the fireworks were the best she’s ever seen, period.

Hey Kiwanis...THANKS!
We received a thank you note from Tyler Pattison for his scholarship funded by Kiwanis through the Lakes Region Scholarship Foundation. He’s on his way to UCONN, where he will major in Business and Engineering. Congrats, Tyler. We also received a second thank you from Community Health and Hospice  for our participation in their Golf Tournament. The thank you came with a picture of our banner on display at the event and the team that Jeff Stone was a part of.

Calling Dr. Howard, Dr. Howard, Dr. Fine...
We got updates on both of our disabled Kiwanians. Larry Murphy reports Ed Merski’s back problems have worsened a bit. After fixing the disc, a muscle tear was found. Ed is at LRGH and may be for a few more days. He’s in room 358. On the flip side, there’s good news for Roger Ballantyne. He had his stitches removed after his hip replacement. He said he’s ready to do 2 things…one is ride his motorcycle. Paul Cotton said that’s the better choice because – quote – it’ll last longer.

Schedule change
Actually, a venue change…on Monday, July 31 st we will be meeting at One Mill Plaza for a guest speaker presentation. Please make a note of it.

Warren Mitchell gave $1.00 for Janet’s recent screening going well and her schedule being extended to 6 months now. (By the way, President Joe’s wife is going through the same thing and has her next screening August 4 th .) Russ Beane gave $3.00 for winning the 50/50 and for learning that he is expecting a granddaughter, the first girl in 3 generations of Beanes. Joe Collie gave $1.00 for learning that his wife is having a girl; Sophia June Collie is due in November. Jeff Stone gave $1.00 because his son won the drive, chip and putt competition and advanced to the next round in Massachusetts, where things didn’t go so well...but A for effort!
