Boys and Girls Club Dinner
President Joe Collie noted the fun time had by all at the recent Boys and Girls Club Celebration, held on Saturday, June 30th. In attendance from the club were Larry Murphy and Rosemary, Ed Merski and Joanne, Jim Fortier and Arlene, and Chet Cilley and Gracie. Dianne Zawacki presented the club with a plaque for our sponsorship of the event. Ed Merski won the centerpiece from the Kiwanis table, though he admitted he stole it rather than won it. More on that later in "quotes." About 160 people attended the Boys and Girls Club dinner. Dianne Zawacki should again be congratulated on her efforts at the Boys and Girls Club and for putting together a great show!

Happy Birthday America!
The 4th of July Celebration went off without a hitch. Chet Cilley and Jim Fortier were both pleased with the day and the weather. Chet reported large crowds and very little police activity. There were some late evening sprinkles, but nothing to ruin the parade and fireworks. The parade ran 45-60 minutes and the bands all played on time at the Opechee Park concert. Chet noted that the collection of classic cars presented by the Kiwanis Club really added to the parade.

Ooops!
There was one incident at the Ashland Fireworks involving Kiwanian Charlie St. Clair, who subcontracts as a pyrotechnic engineer for the 4th. Charlie did not light the fireworks in Laconia this year, but he did do Ashland on the 3rd and Wolfeboro on the 5th. As these pictures illustrate, fireworks weren't the only things he lit this year. Fortunately, Charlie will be OK.

Win A Classic!
Or in this case...BUY a classic! The motorcycle is at Meredith Harley Davidson. The Board of Directors has issued a price tag of $17,000 or best offer. Our winner, Dwight Jewett, took the $15,000 cash option. The bike will be marketed and hopefully sold. NOTE TO MEMBERS: We, as a club, need to vote and discuss next year's fundraiser. Are we going to do a motorcycle again?....Is there anything we want to do differently next year?....Who's gonna chair the darn thing? These are questions that need answers. Please be in attendance for a discussion on Monday, August 6th. We need as many members as possible to join us for this general membership discussion on next year's fundraiser; and to vote on what we decide. Thanks!

Happy Dollars:
Kathy Calvin gave $2...1 for winning and 1 for a week on Welch Island on Lake Winnipesaukee.
Chet Cilley and Jim Fortier each gave $1 for the successful 4th of July event. Ed Chertok gave $2 for Cliff Cilley and Jim Fortier being happy about the 4th. (This writer does not know who Cliff Cilley is, so don't ask.) Dick Metz gave $1 for a successful blood drive at the Belknap Mill last week. The goal of 25 pints was well exceeded as 40 pints were collected, and a lot of Kiwanians were there. Well done! In total, $7 was collected from this happy group.

NISE: 1
$18.

Free Meal: 1
Paul Normandin

Quotes: 1
"See what you can do when you're old?"
Joe Adrignola on Ed Merski's admitting he "stole" a centerpiece fropm the Boys and Girls Club dinner. Apparently, there was no sticker on the back of any of the chairs.

"2 winners...4 losers."
Roger Webster (speaking about the six people at his table) after Kathy won the 50/50 and Paul won the Free Meal (both of whom were sitting at his table).

"Low sperm count."
Ed Chertok, on why he was rejected at the Belknap Mill Blood Drive.

"Well, thanks for coming tonight."
Joe Collie to Ed Chertok.

Bike Rodeo, Part 2 1
The club has agreed to be part of the Boys and Girls Club Day for Kids, which is coming up on September 15th. We will distribute helmets to kids that day, and check bicycles. The event could be a mini version of our annual Bike Rodeo in the spring. Please check your schedules...more details coming soon. It would be great if you could help us out on that day.
