Board Members Present: President Meredith Michaud, Betty Ballantyne, Phil Bonafide, Bill Gile, Steve Loughlin, and Kara Stanley. Not in attendance was Scott Laurent.

HIGHLIGHTS:
Finance:
The following is a summary of the items that were discussed:
• Charity fund donations
• Current account balance in our Charity Fund
• Payment to be made to the Lakes Region Scholarship Foundation for our annual scholarship donation
• The transition of the job of Treasurer from Kara to Bill
• Annual dues to International - paid in full

Steve Loughlin reported we recently received thank you cards from two of the students who received scholarships from the Laconia Kiwanis Club.

Miscellaneous Items Discussed:
• Officers and Directors: We will discuss the slate of officers and directors for next year at next month’s Board of Directors meeting.
• Potential fundraising events for next year
• Name badges: It was discussed to continue pursuing updated name badges through Winnisquam Printing. The cost is: $2.50 per badge plus magnets.
• REMINDER: The Hooksett Kiwanis Club has invited our members to socialize with them in Meredith at a Lake home of a fellow Kiwanian on August 16.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:16 pm.

“Kids in the Park”
On Monday, July 19, members of the Laconia Kiwanis Club were pleased to take part in the program “Kids in the Park” hosted by The Belknap Mill and partially funded by the Laconia Kiwanis Club. Kiwanis K.A.R.E.S. readers were pleased to read to the kids. In addition to participating in the reading, Tara Shore, one of our newest members and the Operations Manager of The Belknap Mill explained the mission of the Laconia Kiwanis Club and its role in the K.A.R.E.S. program.

The Laconia Kiwanis Club is represented in the 2021 Summer Issue of the Yankiwanian. The New England and Bermuda District Yankiwanian is the publication for news and information about the Kiwanis-Family clubs of Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Bermuda. It includes various District reports as well as full page messages from the Kiwanis Governor and many of the leaders in the New England District. The 2021 Summer Issue of the Yankiwanian includes:

Three Laconia Kiwanis Club past presidents participated with their special cars in the 9th annual Lakes Region Rotary Club Charity Car Show. The event, which was held Saturday July 24th at the former Faro Italian Grill in Weirs Beach, attractted more than 1,000 visitors and had a record number of more than 215 entries.

Retired Kiwanian Paul Cotton participated with his 2004 Chevy Super Roadster.
Paul was president of the Laconia Kiwanis Club during the 1991- 1992 term and during the 2004-2005 term. He was named Kiwanian of the Year in 1990.

Honorary Kiwanian Warren Mitchell participated with his 1964 Dodge Dart convertible.
Warren was president of the Laconia Kiwanis Club during the 2003-2004 term and was named Kiwanian of the Year in 1986, 1991, and 2006.

Long time Kiwanian Phil Bonafide, and a present Board member of the Club, participated with his 1966 Pontiac GTO four speed convertible.
Phil was president of the Club during the 2001 - 2002 term and was named Kiwanian of the Year in 2005 and 2019.
Phil's car took first place honors in the Original category (original factory parts) at the show. In addition to the Original category, winners in the other nine Ballot Categories were selected by the car owners.

In addition to winning first place in the Original category, Phil’s car took third place in the People's Choice category. The People's Choice award, which is voted on by all general admission patrons, is awarded to the three favorite cars of all the cars entered at the show. As previously noted, there were over 215 entries in the show.

Jim Fortier and Warren Mitchell, two of our retired Kiwanis members, were represented in this year’s Laconia 4th Of July parade.
Long time Kiwanian, Jim Fortier, who passed away on May 20, 2020, was selected posthumously as the parade’s Grand Marshal. Jim had been a member of the Laconia Kiwanis Club since 1982 and had served as Club President during the 1988-1989 term. Jim was an outstanding member of the Club and his efforts were recognized as he was named Kiwanian of the Year in 1985, 1993 and 1999. Jim retired from the Club in 2017 and was subsequently revered as an Honorary Member of the Laconia Kiwanis Club.

Warren Mitchell was in the parade with fellow members of the Lakes Region Masons (Mt. Lebanon Lodge #32).
Like Jim Fortier, Warren was also an outstanding member of the Laconia Kiwanis Club. He joined the Club in 1976 and was a member through 2012. During his 35+ years as a member, Warren served as Club President during the 2003-2004 term. His exceptional service was recognized as he was named Kiwanian of the Year in 1986, 1991 and 2006.
Warren is presently an Honorary Member of the Laconia Kiwanis Club as he continues to assist the Club when needed.
