FOR SALE….BRAND NEW HARLEY
President Joe Collie reports that he still has not gotten any calls regarding the motorcycle. Roger Landry reports that the ad will again be in the Laconia Daily Sun this week, with a border around it to enhance it’s visibility. Next week, the ad moves to the Laconia Citizen. Stay Tuned…

AWESOME BLOSSOM…
Joe Adrignola advised the club that members of the “Smelly Flower Committee” will be meeting with Lakes Region General Hospital staff to discuss possible fundraising opportunities. The meeting will be at 10:30 on Thursday, August 3rd and those attending should convene in the lobby at LRGH. It is the opinion of the grower that there may a bloom by the end of August. We will know for sure sometime in the middle of August.

HEY KIWANIS…THANKS!
We received a thank you card from Ginny Barunas thanking the club for our sponsorship of the recent sealant day in the school system. Ginny reports that 63 kids were helped and 177 sealant treatments delivered. The event was held back on May 5.

EAT AT JOE’S…
Reminder that next week, July 31st, we will be meeting at One Mill Plaza, aka Joe Adrignola’s building. We will be seeing a presentation by the American Institute of Architecture. We will return to Pheasant Ridge Country Club on Monday, August 7th.

WE MEET HERE NEXT WEEK.

BRAKE FOR MOOSE!
Warren Mitchell advises that he will present the clubs with possible dates for an interclub to Berlin at next week’s meeting. At least 4 members need to attend to constitute an interclub. Warren cautions against motorcycles because of the moose in the North Country…and that’s no joke. Look for the group to travel on 4 wheels. All interested, see Warren next week after the dates are presented.

WELL CONNECTED…
Sec’y Kathy Calvin presented Joe Collie with a check from the city for $115, reimbursing him the fee he incurred when his vehicle was towed. It’s not what you know…it’s who you know.

GUEST SPEAKERS
The club was introduced to Shannon Swett, Outreach Coordinator for the CoRe Coalition and Susan Sargent, director of Reclaiming Futures. By the way…Shannon’s office is located in One Mill Plaza. Some of our club’s members seemed to know where that is… They spoke to the club about the Community Youth Mapping that was going on this summer for the second year in a row in the Lakes Region. A couple of the “Kidmappers” (thank Roger Webster for that) Kayne Kreitzer and Cara Clemens were on hand to describe their experiences in the program thus far. Youth Mapping began in 1990 and since then some 35 communities have benefited from the service. Youth are sent into the community to see what services are available to youth, what adult perception of youth is, and to get youth involved in their community. Volunteers get intense training, they are paid for their time, and they learn skills that they can use for the rest of their lives, including communication and professionalism. The results are then mapped onto actual maps using GIS software. Last year, some 469 business in the Lakes Region were mapped, 67% of which were service oriented and 8% were restaurants. The other 25% were various types of other local businesses. This year’s mapping is going on though August 10th and for the results of last year’s and this year’s, visit the website www.communityyouthmapping.org..
