Roger's Ride for a Cure
In memory of Roger Ballantyne:

Steve Loughlin reported of an invitation from the Ballantyne family to the friends of Roger Ballantyne. The invitation reads as follows:

Through the support of many good people, we are putting together a ride in memory of Roger Ballantyne and to raise monies towards a cure for Kidney Cancer. The Kidney Cancer Association works together with patients, family members, physicians, researchers and many other health professionals. We found them very helpful during Roger’s battle to fight Kidney Cancer.

The campaign is “Roger’s Ride for a Cure”. It will take place on Sunday, August 30, 2009. It will be a motorcycle ride starting and ending at Irwin Toyota Used Car Center in Laconia, NH. Registration will run from 9:00 am until 9:45 am and will include coffee & muffins. The ride will begin sharp at 10:00 am and will conclude no later than 1:00 P.M. A barbeque and raffles prize will conclude the ride. (The ride will take place rain or shine.) A shorter route will happen if the weather does not cooperate. We ask $25 per motorcycle as a donation…all of which will go towards the Kidney Cancer Association.

We understand not all of you ride. We encourage you to attend the gathering and for those of you who would like to contribute towards “Roger’s Ride for a Cure” you may do so by linking onto the kidney cancer site directly.

Our intent is to include family and friends and anyone who wishes to participate. If you know of anyone who will want to join us, please forward them this letter and website address. This is something we thought best to try this first time on a smaller scale through word of mouth. We anticipate anywhere from 15 to 30 bikers.

Thank You Kiwanis...

President Brian advised the club we received a "thank you" from Project Extra for our recent donation.

We also received, from the New England District, a ribbon thanking us for our involvement in Young Children, Priority One.

Membership Recruitment Week #2:
Once again, President Brian spoke on new recruitment strategy and opened the floor for membership ideas. Brian suggested a date for a roundup of Sept 14th.

Joe Adrignola reminded the membership that, prior to approaching a potential new member, the candidate first needs to be approved by the Board of Directors.

President Brian suggested the members start collecting names of prospective members.

Once a prospective member has been approved by the Board of Directors and that prospect has agreed to be a member or the club, a Membership Information Blank needs to be completed and returned to the club Secretary prior to induction. A Membership Information Blank is available by "clicking" here.

Happy Dollars:

$1 from Howard for winning the 50 50.
Dick Metz gave $10 for having such a hard head. As he coughed and attempted to clear his throat, Dick noted, "no one is getting rid of me." "I spoke to my neurologist and he said I only used up three of my nine lives. I have six left." Ed Merski then noted that his grandfather sounded like Dick just before he died.

Roger Webster Health Update:
Ed Merski advised the club that Roger Webster is still recuperating (from knee surgery) at the Genesis center. His departure has been complicated because he came down with pneumonia. He release is expected shortly.
