The Lodge at Belmont:
Larry Murphy tells us that Dave Cooley from The Lodge at Belmont will be back next week looking for people to sign up as participants for the Charity Nights in 2009. We need 3 people to be signers for this upcoming year. Brian Winslow says we will be signing a contract with The Lodge to participate with them for Charity Nights in 2009. Thanks for a good time…
Lt. Gov. Joe Collie thanked those who helped and participated in last week’s installation, including Ed Merski, Peter Karagianis, Joe Adrignola, Kathy Calvin, Phil Bonafide, and Don Nelson, among others. We got positive feedback from the other clubs and the Governor. It went well. Thanks again!

25 Years and Counting:
Kathy Calvin presented past president Larry Murphy with his 25 year pin and Legion of Honor plaque. Larry was not at the Installation last week to receive it then. He got a nice round of applause from those in attendance tonight. Here’s to another 25 years, Larry.

Larry, Denise, and Joe all need their glasses to see Larry's new pin.

Kiwanis KARES
Kids and Reading Equals Success will be at Elm Street School on October 20th from 9:30-10:30am. Formerly known as RIF, we’ll be looking for readers to come and distribute books to the 3rd graders. Kathy Calvin informs the club to check your schedule. A sign up sheet will be circulated next week.

Happy Dollars
Howard Bacon for winning the 50/50. Dick Metz gave 1 for Tom Knox being at our meeting. Roger Landry gave 1 for Tom Knox being here to see that all Kiwanians are not like Dick Metz. Phil Bonafide gave 2 for Barbara Luther being our guest speaker. He praised her work as Registrar of Deeds.

Fines:
$0.25 was collected from Charlie St. Clair for being late.

Guest Speaker:
Barbara Luther was our guest speaker. She has worked at the Belknap County Registry of Deeds for 23 years and is currently the Commissioner Registrar. She said they have a staff of 6 with a combined experience of 193 years. They cover 10 towns and 1 city and have records that date back to the mid 1700’s. Records from those early days are hand written. They were all recently restored and put in plastic sleeves and leather bound books. To illustrate the recent mortgage crisis, Barbara said that in 2007, 117 foreclosures were recorded for the entire year and through August of this year, 110 had already been recorded. She discussed ways that the registry makes money and some of the technology that has been made accessing, storing, and retrieving information more efficient than when she started 23 years ago. She is running for re-election in the November election.
