News That Concerns Kiwanians and Their Families

NO MEETING ON MONDAY BECAUSE OF INCLEMENT WEATHER:

A message from the Prez....
If you didn't get her email, President Dianne wrote the following:

Hello All:

Unfortunately, we were unable to meet this evening due to the winter storm. It was intended, that we would discuss and vote on a fundraising opportunity that Larry Murphy has been researching for some time. Due to the timeliness in which we must make a commitment, I will attempt to give everyone an overview of the fundraising opportunity via email. Please respond to me with a "yes" or a "no" as well as any questions you might have, within the next 2 days.

On 11/26/07, Dave Cooley of "The Lodge at Belmont" and Gary Desrosiers, General Manager of the Legion in Rochester, both presented some members of our club with information regarding the opportunity for us to sponsor "Games of Chance" at The Lodge in Belmont. We have the opportunity to sponsor 4 days in December 2007 and 10 days in January 2008, on specially designated charity nights. We would be entitled to 35% of the profits. We were advised that a 10 day opportunity usually yields between $6,000-$10,000 for the charity. There are a few stipulations. One is that there must be a member of the Laconia Kiwanis Club present during the designated hours for gaming. The member must have been a member for at least 6 months and all those who volunteer to be present must have a criminal background check performed and photo obtained for the New Hampshire Pari-Mutuel Commission. There were several members present who completed applications last week in an effort to expedite the process, in the event the club voted to move forward with this fundraising opportunity. It appeared there would be little difficulty providing the necessary manpower due to the initial response by club members. Details were discussed regarding the need for one check daily, split shifts, etc. There were no obstacles identified that would prevent us from participating. There are dozens of charitable organizations that currently participate so the process has been refined quite nicely by others. The work is minimal for the club member who would be on site during the gaming hours.

There are several forms to complete and process in order to make this happen. Although there was an overall positive response by the club of the members who were present, I am asking each of you to cast your vote. There is essentially "no risk" and potentially a "high yield" to benefit our club.

I apologize for not being able to provide you with the exact dates for December 2007, however they do fall after Christmas. The January dates are: 2, 4, 5, 6, 9, 11, 12, 13, 16 & 18. The hours are: Wednesday, 4-12, Friday, 4-12, Saturday, 12-12 and Sunday 12-10.

Thank you for taking the time to review this information and for voting on the proposal. Please drive safely if you need to be on the roads!

Dianne
