The minutes from the previous month's meeting were approved.

The club approved the general fund and the charity fund as read pending explanation of a $150 credit.

A motion was made to approve a new member named Shawn (no last name) who is the COO of Melcher and Prescott and Dana Richey.

The Board approved to budget $1,000 for a Christmas raffle of a 42 inch LCD television.

The Board approved a donation of $200 to Lou Athanis to sponsor a basketball team subject to the team being named the Laconia Kiwanis Club (as opposed to it being called just the Kiwanis Club).

The Board approved a donation of $150 to become a Laconia Motorcycle Week rally patron.

The Board meeting was adjourned at 8:10 p.m.

Tonight's meeting was adjourned at 6:58 p.m.

Results of the Kiwanis Trivia Contest:
Five people participated in the contest including a former Kiwanian who was in that 1982 picture. That individual is Alan MacRae, who got nine out of 10 correctly. No one knew the name of the non-Kiwanian. That person, who was first from the right in the picture, is Dick Breton’s son, Rick. Since Alan MacRae will be a guest speaker in February, and, at that time, will receive a complementary meal, the free meal goes to the second place contestant. The winner of the free meal is Dennis Denoncourt. Dennis successfully named five of the ten individuals in the picture. Dennis also knew the occupations of two others (although he couldn't’t remember their names). A big thumbs up to others who also participated in the contest: Brian Winslow and Phil Bonafide (each had four correct) and Joe Adrignola (had three correct). Nice job by all who participated.

Details of the individuals in the picture are posted below.

Dick Breton was kind enough to provide the Kiwanis Club with the picture. It was taken behind the Sacred Heart Church on Union Avenue in Laconia adjacent to the gym building looking south into the residential neighborhood.

All of the bikers in the picture, except Rick Breton, were members of the Laconia Kiwanis Club. The following are details of each of them:

Leo Sasseville was president of the Laconia Kiwanis club in 1979-80 and he now resides in Sun City, Arizona. He was formerly Laconia’s Assistant Fire Chief and subsequently worked at Laconia Electric, Inc. heading up their Laconia Fire Products division. Leo and his wife, Claire, visited the Laconia Kiwanis Club in 2002. Several pictures of Leo and Claire can be seen when they visited the club by “clicking” here.

Dick Stone is the father of recent Kiwanis member, Jeff Stone. Dick passed away May 5, 2005. For more information on Dick, “click” here.

Ed Schofield owned Aetna Pump, a commercial pump business in Alton, and was also a partner in MMSTV Associates, a partnership which owns commercial real estate in Belmont and Keene. In the early 1980’s, he was a Director of Belknap Bank (which was located next to the Belknap Mall and is now the location of Northway Bank). Ed passed away on January 18, 1994.

David Thurston is a former owner of Thurston's Marine (along with his brothers, Mark, Jeff, Bruce, and Don). David was a member of the Laconia Kiwanis Club for a short period of time as was his twin brother, Mark. After leaving the family business in 1988, David became a sales rep for Waste Management. He subsequently left that business and the state of New Hampshire. He purchased an ocean yacht and sailed into the sunset. David presently lives in Fort Lauderdale, Florida where he is employed as the captain of a private yacht. His wife, Cathie, serves as the first mate.

Gary Howard was the former General Manager of WEMJ radio in the 1970’s to about 1983. While with WEMJ, Gary assisted the Laconia Kiwanis Club with public service announcements and often opened the “air waves” through Kiwanis Radio Day, an annual adverting event that had been a major fundraiser of the club. When the radio station was sold in 1983, Gary left WEMJ and subsequently became a sales executive for New Hampshire Public Radio. Gary may now be residing in Florida.

Boyce O’Hara was a chiropractor in the Lakes Region. His current whereabouts is not known.

Alan MacRae is a freelance photojournalist residing in Belmont. His photography can be seen daily in many newspapers throughout New Hampshire including the Laconia Daily Sun and The Citizen. Alan will be our guest speaker on February 22nd. For more information on Alan, “click” here.

He subsequently served as New Hampshire’s U.S. District Marshall from 1990 to 1994. Bob now resides in Florida.

Rick Breton is the son of Honorary Member, Dick Breton. Rick is a Financial Advisor with Wells Fargo Advisors, LLC. For professional information on Rick, “click” here.
