A picture is worth...
Joe Adrignola noted that there is new artwork on display at One Mill Plaza. The photos are by Sherry Durgan and Nancy Durgan. Joe noted they are local "amateur" photographers, but their work hardly looks amateur. The pictures were taken locally and in other places as far away as Holland.

Hey Kiwanis....THANKS!

We received a thank you note from Carla Scott at the New Hampshire Chapter of the Make A Wish Foundation thanking us for the opportunity to speak at our meeting on January 29th. The organization was grateful to spread the word of their work and thankful to --"make so many new friends in Laconia and Belknap County, home of many of their wish children."

Reading is FUNdamental!
The club had a RIF distribution last week at Pleasant Street School. All members attending made it to the right school this time (sorry, Larry). On hand were Larry Murphy, Paul Cotton, Warren Mitchell, and Kathy Calvin. In total 45 kids received books. The next RIF meeting will be at Woodland Heights sometime in early March. More specific information coming later. Paul Cotton noted how enthusiastic the children were to receive the books and to have club members on hand to read them stories. Well done!

Roger that...
Roger Landry noted that Roger Ballantyne came into his store Monday. Roger was in good spirits. He will soon be facing 4 weeks of radical Interleukin treatment for his cancer. Roger Landry asked that we keep Roger Ballantyne in our thoughts over the next few weeks. Roger Ballantyne did send along a BIG hello to the club. We certainly do wish "Spaceshot" well.

Roger that...again.

"Howdy, you all. Greetings from cold, rainy and windy Florida. Speaking about wind, please keep the tornatoes up north. Not much happening here, except I have attended one meeting of the Kiwanis Club here in Barefoot Bay. They meet twice a month on the second and forth Tuesdays at 8 am. No meal, just coffee and sweet rolls at no charge. They have about 15 members, but are very active. Every Friday night, from October to April, they have BINGO. Once a month they have a Supper. But fund raisers do very well. Tell Carroll Stafford, I have found a golf tee for him. Nice course, with sand cranes to fetch the balls. Regard to all." Roger Webster.

Dirty Landry...uh, I mean Laundry...
Roger Landry again advised the club that an order for shirts will be put in soon. See him for sizes, colors, styles, etc.

Speaking of Dirty Laundry...
President Joe Collie reports that his mother presented him with a Kiwanis pin over the weekend. Turns out she found it in a dryer at the laundromat she works at. It belongs to Charlie St. Clair. She also found a large amount of cash in Charlie's jeans. Upon returning the cash, Charlie claimed some was missing. MMmmm...

Pres. Joe ponders on how much Charlie should pay to get his Kiwanis pin back.

Remembering Max...
President Joe Collie reports he passed along the club's condolences to Max Wakeman's wife, Virginia, at Max's memorial service last Friday. Several other club members attended as well. Virginia said they were really glad to have attended the last installation and had a great time sitting with the Normandins, Ballantynes, Loughlins, and Staffords.

Give me your lunch money!
Roger Landry reports that he and Pam, Sec'y Kathy Calvin, Dianne Zawacki, and Hon. Mem. Nancy Williams-Hunt attended the luncheon last Friday at the Huot Technical Center at Laconia High School. Bob Champlin, Superintendent, thanked the club as being among the many that have worked hard in the community with the School District to benefit the district's students. Roger noted that the food was excellent.

If you blinked...you missed it.
Sec'y Kathy read the board meeting minutes from December. The board approved a $5,000 donation to the Laconia Public Library; another payment on our pledge. The balance is now down to approximately $4,300. The board approved and adjourned at 7:15. That's it.

Rare Bloom...
Not really. Kathy Calvin reports that Dr. Lou Ricciardello has another corpse bloom in the works. It should be within 6-8 days of this publication and it is flower number 5 for those of you scoring at home. Lou said the club is invited to the greenhouse whenever we'd like to go. Best times are Wednesday nights and weekends.
