Brian and Sandy described the pediatric program in place at the hospital, the first-in- New- England Milk Bank and Dispensary, the Doorway at LRGH, a granted program to assist in combating the opioid crisis, and the Patient Family Advisory Council. The PFAC is a major part of the LRGH effort to make health-care more patient centered. Several important facts gleaned from the presentation included:
• Labor and delivery are now at Concord Hospital but a lot of pre-natal services are still performed at LRGH.
• Belmont hosts an entirely new pediatric program with 3 practitioners.
• Lactation services are still provided.
• A first-in-New-England program established with both a milk bank and dispensary.
• The "Doorway" is essentially a treatment hub for opioids.
• Suboxone is a treatment for addiction and a person can be weaned off of it, unlike methadone. A 62-63% success rate for the 700 patients in this program exists.
• Entire Emergency department is being remodeled and the following was noted:
1. new entryway
2. secure - able to lock down the perimeter
3. enhanced infectious disease control
4. more efficient, less wait time
5. Emergency room now has 21 identical treatment rooms.
6. 4% walk-away rate reduced to near 0%, which translates to dollars.
7. LRGH has the second busiest emergency room in NH
8. July is the busiest month at the emergency room
9. There are five pediatricians on staff at LRGH

ANOTHER TUCKER TRIBUTE:

In the last bulletin, we were pleased to congratulate Key Club Secretary Lydia Tucker who was recently elected Lt. Governor, Division 5 of the Key Club New England & Bermuda District. This month, we are happy to congratulate, Lydia’s dad, Steve Tucker, who was voted unanimously by the Laconia School Board to be the next Superintendent of Schools starting on July 1st.

Steve Tucker is no stranger to the Laconia Kiwanis Club. In addition to his professional credentials at Laconia High School and Gilford High School, Steve Tucker was a former Advisor for the LHS Key Club (2011-12).
