Guest Speakers:
Laura Brusseau and Jessica Dutille from the Faith, Hope, and Love Foundation spoke about their efforts with children. The foundation gives kids hope through faith and love so that they may accomplish all their dreams. The two met in 2002 on an Alternative Spring Break trip for Habitat for Humanity. They were in college at Plymouth State University. After a year, the two have obtained 501c3 status and a board of directors and 4 big fund raising events per year. The funds are used to provide youth with basic needs for survival, educational enrichment the family cannot afford (ie: summer camp, fitness programs, etc) and subsidize medial bills in certain cases, like doctor’s appointments that may not be covered by insurance. Recently, 30 girls were given gowns for the proms, along with necklaces and shows. They (the girls) also met Miss New Hampshire. The organization is getting ready to hand out their first $1,000 scholarship to an area student in June of 2008. In addition to the Gowns for Girls event, the organization has a golf tournament, Pizza Challenge, and a benefit dinner. They have partnered with the Pemi Youth Center, the Silver Cultural Arts Center at PSU, and the North Conway Chamber of Commerce, among others. Goals for the immediate future include more scholarships, more outreach into the community, expanding the board of directors, and finding office space.
