For the annual election of club officers and directors, we have one candidate for each open position. A voice vote was all that was needed to cast the ballot. Those elected included:
President, 2007-2008: pending
Vice President, 2007-2008: Jeff Stone with 1 opposed (himself)
Treasurer: Joe Adrignola unanimous
Board Of Directors, 2007-2009:
Lori Dickson, unanimous
Peter Karagianis, 1 opposed (Metz)
Dick Metz, 1 opposed (Karagianis)
Jim Fortier, unanimous
The new board will meet next week and appoint a secretary. The new board will also have to find a President for the next Kiwanis year, October 1, 2007 through September 30, 2008. Welcome to our new officers and directors. Congratulations!

Hey Kiwanis...Thanks!
We received a "thank you" from the Laconia High School Band Boosters Program for our support of their recent Comedy Night. The event was a success again this year. The note came from some volunteer named Kathy Calvin. Never heard of her...

We're Invited...
To an Open House at Lakes Region Child Care on Wednesday, May 16th. The event runs from 5pm-7pm and will feature a tour of the facility and light refreshments. This will serve as a good opportunity to see our club's money at work. We pledged $45,000 to the Day Care center.

Reading is FUNdamental
Kathy Calvin passed around sign up sheets for the upcoming RIF readings, set for early June. Monday, June 4th at Woodland Heights Elementary and Tuesday, June 5th at Pleasant Street School. The theme for the Pleasant Street Reading is Aloha to Reading. Larry Murphy vows to wear his coconut eye patch. Sign up sheets will be circulated again at the next couple meetings in May. These represent the final RIF distributions of the year.

Belknap Mill Fundraiser...
Larry and Rosemarie Murphy and Ed and Joann Merski will represent the club at the Roaring 20's event on Friday, May 11th. Dick Metz, Mike Marsh, Lori Dickson, and Roger Landry will also be there, though in other capacities. Dick says something similar to this event could be a second fundraiser for our club, outside of the motorcycle raffle.

Boys and Girls Club Banquet...
On Saturday, June 30th, the Boys and Girls Club Gala Celebration will be held at Sacred Heart Hall in Laconia from 5pm to 9pm. The Laconia Kiwanis Club sponsored that event and has a table for 5 reserved. Again, let Joe Collie know if you’d like to go. The club is looking for representation at this event. Thanks in advance for your time!

Lend a Helping Hand...
Larry Murphy asked the club for help at St. Francis Home. They are looking to have someone build flowerpots for the garden there. The pots have to be elevated for viewing by wheelchair bound residents. The home will supply the dirt and the materials. If interested and able, please call Larry Murphy at 524-9596. Also, Larry reminded the club of the cleanup day scheduled for May 19th at Mayhew Island in Bristol. If interested in helping out that day, please let him know. Reference the bulletin from 2 weeks ago when the Mayhew Program was presented by Jim Nute.

Joe Adrignola reminds business owners and club members to ask for a donation for the website. Links to a company's website from our website are $100 per year. Not too bad! Ask your employer, or if you own a business yourself, please consider helping this mini-fundraiser. Thanks to Dick Metz for his recent contribution. Click metzelectronics.com for more info on Dick's company. (Dick: that'll be another $100, please)

Last month's board meeting...

Kathy Calvin read the minutes to two board meetings held last month. They minutes were accepted and approved as read. Some of the highlights were:
*** The General and Charity Funds were accepted as read on April 2nd.
*** We voted to donate $500 to the Boys and Girls Club to support their upcoming banquet (see above)
*** A motion carried to bill each member $8 for an adjustment in the dues we pay Kiwanis International. The bills were to be distributed the following month (May).
