Guest Speaker:
Senior Kiwanian, Carroll Stafford introduced our guest speaker, Rev. Michael C. Graham, Pastor of the Gilford Community Church.
Michael spoke to the club about the Gilford Youth Center which is due to open in June/July of 2009. The Gilford Youth Center includes a 10,000 sq.ft. high school gymnasium, a locker room, offices, fitness room, game room and a caterer’s kitchen. Programming will include a summer camp, after school club, school vacation camp, children’s fitness and senior outreach.
An unnamed supporter has given almost 5 million to the project. Additionally, Laconia Savings Bank has donated $100,000 to the project. Michael Graham read a letter from the bank which noted the donation was being made "in honor of Carroll and Sandra Stafford, in recognition of their many contributions and years of service to the communities and youth of the Lakes Region."Construction and operation of the Gilford Youth Center will be independent of the finances of the Gilford Community Church and the Town of Gilford. This facility will give the youth of this community - and their families - a safe place to have fun. Michael stressed that the Gilfrod Youth Center is a resource to be used by all in the Lakes Region.
At the conclusion of his presentation, Michael handed out free T-shirts and literature about Gilford Youth Center. For more information on the Gilford Youth Center you can go to their web site by "clicking" here.
