Peter Karagianis celebrated his 91st birthday today…Monday, June 25th. Congratulations, Peter! Ask Peter about knowing Babe Ruth when Babe played for the Boston Braves in 1935...ask him about cleaning Lake Winnisquam and saving the Belknap Mill. The man has done it all. He joined our club in 1949. He may be the few men you know that has been alive for 3 Red Sox World Series titles….but Ed Chertok has seen 4!
Birthday Boy.

Dwight Jewett was found, thanks in part to some good detective work by Paul Cotton and Warren Mitchell. They drove to his Moultonboro address, only to find the house listed for sale! Next stop: the real estate office. They looked him up and connected him to our club. Dwight opted for the cash option and has received his $15,000 already. The bike is for sale at Meredith Harley Davidson . Anyone interested in a new Heritage Softail?

About Dwight Jewett:
He lived in Weymouth, Massachusetts and works for Pilgrim Nuclear Power Plant. He and his wife, Kathy had a summer home in Moultonborough. The reason the Massachusetts number was disconnected is that the house in Massachusetts has been sold. The for sale sign on the house in Moultonborough was his summer home. He and his wife have bought another Moultonborough home that will become their permanent address. Congratulations!, Dwight! By the way…Dwight bought the winning ticket at The Sandwich Fair, one of our first stops this year, and he only bought one ticket. Some guys have all the luck!Boys and Girls Club Event
The Boys and Girls Club “BIG” Event is scheduled for this Saturday, June 30th. Dianne Zawacki is looking for a good turnout and the club has a table for 8. So far, 6 people have signed on, so there is, at this time, still room for another couple. Ed and Joann Merski, Larry and Rosemary Murphy, Jim and Arlene Fortier, and Joe Collie will be there. If interested, please let President Joe Collie know by this weekend. Hope to see you there. A full recap coming at our next meeting on Monday, July 9th.Schedule reminder…
We will NOT be meeting next week because of the 4th of July holiday. We will meet again on Monday, July 9th. We’ll have the board meeting and NISE money will be collected.
Happy Birthday America!
The 4th of July celebration is coming up on…the 4th of July! Imagine that. It’s a Wednesday this year. In lieu of towing the trailer in the parade this year, the Laconia Kiwanis Club will have several members driving in and riding in their classic cars! Look for Roger Landry to be there, as well as Warren Mitchell, Dick Metz, and Dick Breton. Also riding along…several “Klassic Kiwanians” like Ed Chertok, Roger Webster, and possibly Peter Karagianis. The parade starts at 1pm at Garfield Street and Wyatt Park…those participating should meet at NAPA, 580 Union Ave. at 12:30.Out for Blood:
Dick Metz informs the group that there will a blood drive at the Belknap Mill on Friday, July 6th from 9am-3pm. Please come by and donate if you can. All types are needed, as the Red Cross is desperately low heading into the summer months. Thanks in advance for your support.Brake for Moose! It could save your life.
Warren Mitchell will be investigating a date that we could make an interclub trip to Berlin. He’ll get back to us. If 6 people could make the trip, it could be fun. Stay Tuned...

Photo by W. Stephen LoughlinSecond Prize:
A rare second prize was drawn after Joe and Jim won. Roger Webster gave away his South Korean government pen, which he received at a ceremony earlier in the day at the NH Veteran’s Cemetery in Boscawen commemorating the 57th anniversary of the start of the Korean War. Roger said it was great and many people thanked him and the other veterans there for saving their country. By the way, Mike Marsh won the pen.
He smiles now...but doesn't know that pen only writes Korean.
