News From The President:
President Scott had no announcements but turned the meeting over to Betty Ballantyne to discuss Roger’s Ride.

From the Members:
Dick Breton shared news
of past members.

Marty Hirschberg’s wife, Lillian, passed away June 21st. She was 77 years old. A memorial service will be held for her in the Hancock, NH area on August 10. Contact Dick for more information. Marty Hirschberg was president of the Laconia Kiwanis Club 1999-2000.

Dick also reported that Claire Sasseville wrote to say that, although Leo is in an assisted living facility, he is anxious to get home. He particularly enjoyed a recent newsletter that had his picture in it. Leo was the president of the Laconia Kiwanis Club 1979 - 1980. He now resides in Peoria, Arizona.

Jim Fortier brought in a beautiful old oak chair which had been previously owned by past Kiwanis member Charlie Beard. The chair is in good shape and has the Kiwanis logo on it. Charlie had been awarded the chair when he was a Rochester, NH Kiwanian for his service to that club. Charlie’s sons are not Kiwanians, so one of them contacted Jim to donate it to the club. Jim thought it could be a raffle item; others thought we should keep it and use it as the chair of honor for our program speakers.

Roger Webster reported that he received word just before the meeting that Howard Bacon is in the hospital suffering some internal bleeding.

Betty Ballantyne took the floor and brought the club up to date regarding plans for Roger’s Ride. 50 tickets will be given to five different vendors in Laconia to sell on our behalf. Betty has asked members to take at least 10 tickets each to sell or purchase for themselves.

Betty then got four volunteers to be team leaders and populated each team with the remainder of the members. The four are Betty, John Walker, Jack Batchelder, and Phil Bonafide. Team leaders are responsible for checking in with team members weekly to check on status of ticket sales. Our goal is to sell them all as soon as possible. John Walker will keep track of the vendor sales and report in. All sales reports go to Betty on a weekly basis.

Steve Loughlin shared that the website for the ride will be up and running as of tomorrow evening. www.laconiakiwanis.com. “Click”on Roger’s Ride. One of your selections will be a good look at the Lodge for which the raffle tickets are being sold. Tickets are selling for $5 apiece. We could all be heroes with our spouses for winning this prize. Betty stated that all spare tickets will be held by her in her office, 59 Bisson Avenue, Irwin Ford/Toyota. If you sell all of yours and need more, go see Betty. Only 500 tickets will be sold to increase one’s chances to win.

Dick Breton shared that he is doing a final check of the route this Sunday. It is looking like 75 miles, a max of three hours with a rest stop at some point.

50 50:
$21 was in the pot. Same as last meeting.

And the winner is: Joe Adrignola's (former?) partner...Jim Fortier

Jim Fortier wins. If Joe Adrignola had shown up he would have broken his 8 month losing streak.
