Also, Kiwanian of the Year will be recognized. Dianne Roberts will be installed as President for 2007-2008 and Jeff Stone as Vice President, ready to take the reigns in 2008-2009. The Installation dinner will be in the big room at Pheasant Ridge. The event starts at 6pm with cocktails and appetizers and dinner will begin at 6:45. Local media personality Suzanne Roantree will be the Master of Ceremonies and some other old friends will be on hand. A Contagiani’s buffet of chicken and pork entrees will be served. Reading Is FUNdamental
The first RIF distribution of the school year will be held this Thursday, September 27 at 2pm, at Pleasant Street School. Joe Adrignola, Kathy Calvin, Don Nelson, and Randy Brough are schedule to help out that day. Please check your schedules and if you can help out, please let Kathy Calvin know. E-mail her at kgc@mlolaw.com. Thanks.

Friday Night Lights
Jim Fortier thanked the crew that helped in the snack shack at last weekend’s Laconia High School Football game. Larry Murphy, Ed Merski, Chet Cilley, and Kathy Calvin were with Jim. The must be good luck. Laconia beat Hollis/Brookline by a score of 42-7. Go Sachems!

Mark Your Calendar…
The Belknap Mill Society will be presenting a party for the families of soldiers at Rotary Park on Saturday, October 27th. Annie and the Orphans will be there playing music. There will also be arts and crafts, food, a magic show, face painting, and the Army National Guard Obstacle Course. Please check your schedule and come by and help out. Dick Metz says we could use 5 or 6 Kiwanis members. Joe Collie will be MC. Check your schedules and please make some time for this event. It runs from 11-2 Saturday, October 27th. Dick says it’s the brain child of Peter Karagianis. “Special K” strikes again. Peter received a warm round of applause. Hope to see you on the 27th.

Happy Dollars
Bill Kosmos gave $1 for winning the 50/50. Larry Murphy gave a happy dollar because his sister in law has gotten a place in town and will now be at his place less. Paul Cotton gave a happy dollar because Larry was happy about his sister in law.

Fines
Russ Beane, Roger Landry, and Mike Marsh were all fined a quarter for being pinless. Paul Cotton was fined for being late. We made a whole buck off these four. WOW!

Dianne's Decision...

When it comes to being President, Dianne tells Phil "How could I resist?"

Roger Ballantyne Update (by Joe Adrignola)

I always ask people more in touch with Roger Ballantyne how he is and it always leaves me feeling as if I should do more to stay in touch directly with him and that we club members should be doing more as well. With advice from Abe Dadian as to how to orchestrate a pleasant visit, Steve Loughlin and I visited with Roger last Thursday (9/20) for about a half an hour. At Abe Dadian’s suggestion, we called Betty first to make sure Roger was having a good enough day to see visitors. We did not call Roger in advance. Betty said that Roger was having a very good day so we thought we could try to ruin it or improve it.

We found Roger stretched out in a recliner in his bedroom, in a sweat suit, fully awake and alert. He was watching his new flat screed TV.

We brought him a Snickers flavored Blizzard from Dairy Queen. The visiting nurse had just left and suggested that Roger put on some weight so our DQ was apropos. We chatted about several light topics and it was fairly easy to draw Roger out for a few minutes at a time. Steve was especially good at keeping the conversation going and humorous.

Prior to leaving Roger requested that we extend his best wishes to his fellow Kiwanis members. You can extend your best wishes to Roger by sending him an email at ballantyne@metrocast.net.

It should be noted, Roger continues to receive periodic treatment at Boston’s Beth Israel hospital for the cancerous tumors in his chest.
