Key Club Report:
President Gabi reported the following: At the upcoming Pumpkinfest, on October 13th, the Key Club will be conducting children’s games from noon until 4:30 at the Belknap Mill.

The Key Club will have a team at the upcoming Lakes Region Scholarship Foundation Annual Spelling Bee, which will be held October 25th at Laconia High School starting at 6:30 pm.

NOTE: The Key Club Spelling Bee team, known as The BEEtles, include Ella Muller, Andrew Smith, Maddie Carigan and Maddy Kelly (alt.). Key Club President, Gabi Djuric will participate in the Spelling Bee with the team of the LHS Senior Class Officers. Kiwanis members are encouraged to attend the Spelling Bee to cheer on all Key Club members.

*John Walker explained that the Board voted to change the “perfect attendance” pins to “participation pins” for any member who serves all or part of 24 days during the Club year at meetings or fund-raisers.


From the President:
President Bill reported tonight’s’ meeting would be the only October meeting. The next meeting will be the Board of Directors Meeting, which will be held at the Fire House on November 5th. All members are invited to attend Board meetings. NOTE: Our Board meeting for November has been moved up one week to November 5th because of the Veterans Day holiday (on Monday November 12th). The next regular meeting will be Monday November 26th.

Bill invited all members to stop off at the Belknap Mill Saturday afternoon during Pumpkinfest to say hello to Key Clubbers conducting children's games and to be present for the 4:30 pm presentation to the winner of the "Duck Derby".

Bill then welcomed back the 50-50, and asked Key Club President Gabi Djurik to draw the winning ticket, worth $50. The winner was Lauren Murphy, daughter of Larry and Rosemary.

RETIRED KIWANIAN CONTRIBUTES TO KIDS:
Long time Kiwianian, Howard Bacon, was pleased to make a generous contribution to the Kiwanis Club with the money to be used to assist the Laconia program. On October 16th, Howard sat down to do a photo op with Kiwanis member, Steve Loughlin.

Interesting Facts about Howard Bacon:
• Howard joined the Laconia Kiwanis Club in 1953. At that time, the president of the Club was Roger Beane. (NOTE: Roger Beane was the uncle of Kiwanis member D. Scott Beane and former member Russell Beane. Roger Beane was also the brother of Dana S. Beane, the father of D. Scott Beane, who was president of the Laconia Kiwanis Club for the 1939-40 term.)
• Howard Bacon was the President of the Laconia Kiwanis Club for the 1956-57 term.
• Howard Bacon was a 62-year veteran of the Club when he retired from the Laconia Kiwanis Club in 2015.
• Howard Bacon had been the president of the former Laconia Needle Company, which was located in the O’Shea Industrial Park.
• Howard Bacon resides at Ledgeview at The Taylor Community.

• Howard Bacon will turn 98 in April of next year.
