Paul CottonWelcome a-BOARD!
Russ Beane was nominated by the board of directors to fill the vacancy created by Nancy Williams-Hunt's resignation. The general membership approved Russ unanimously. Russ was quoted as saying he was "dying to get on the board..."Hey Kiwanis...THANKS !
We received 2 thank you notes this week. One was from the Mayhew program, thanking us for the donation this year and the cumulative donations we have made to their organization since 1989. The Circle Program also thanked us for the donation we made this year of $1,000 toward their efforts. Here comes Santa Claus...Here comes Santa Claus...
Kathy Calvin reminds the club that the Children's Christmas Party has been scheduled for December 11th. She will provide you with slips to fill out for children's gifts. If you need one, please see her at a meeting between now and December 4th.Coming Attractions...
Roger Landry informed the club that our social calendar is filling up fast. Jeff Kellett, Don Frost, Mark Leibl, and a trip to the new Lodge at Belmont, formally the Greyhound Park, are all scheduled in the coming months. Please check the schedule at the bottom of this publication each week for specific dates. It's a Bird...It's a Plane...It's Recycleman:
Charlie St. Clair appeared in color on the cover of The Laconia Daily Sun newspaper. (See full story at bottom of page.) He was loading recyclable materials out of the back of his van. As far as we could tell he was not displaying his Kiwanis pin, at least not on the side that made the paper anyway. Roger Landry fined Charlie a buck. He paid with a $2 bill. Slow news day.
Charlie has planned for life after Bike Week.

Jim Fortier thanked his team of Chet Cilley, Larry Murphy, himself, and Kathy Calvin for their work in the snack shack at home football games this past season. Though they worked hard, they failed to bring home the championship last weekend, and Chet nearly burned the place down. Wait till next year...Milestones for Mahogany Row...
The President and Vice President celebrated big moments this week. Joe Collie and Jill welcomed in daughter Sophia June Collie, b. 11/8/06, 7 pounds 11 ounces, 19.5 inches long. Both mom and baby are healthy and doing great. Dianne Roberts was elevated to Assistant Director of Nursing at the Belknap County Nursing Home. As she put it...that's "A.D.O.N."Baby Collie makes the radio home page

Fines:
Larry Murphy and Charlie St. Clair were both pinless.Guest Speaker:
Spencer Reid, Plan USA, made a presentation to the club. Spencer is a two term President of the Greater Providence, Rhode Island Kiwanis Club. He also works for Plan USA, an organization dedicated to building up communities in developing countries through child based efforts and education. Plan USA is part of Plan International and Spencer works in the national office, which is located in Warwick, Rhode Island. He informed members that clubs and individuals can "sponsor" children for $288 a month. Spencer said that Plan USA is a member of the advisory council to Kiwanis International's Young Children Priority One Program. He is spreading the word to Kiwanis Clubs throughout New England. He said that aside from sponsoring a child, clubs can get involved by donating to rebuilding communities with small, monthly donations. $20/month would sponsor immunizations for children; $25/month could sponsor anti-malaria bed netting; $75/month would sponsor small animals purchases for villages; and $20/month would sponsor supplemental feeding programs. Brochures and sponsor forms were distributed. For more information log onto the website, www.planusa.org . Reid is in his 4th year with the organization. He started in the donor relation department.
