Guest Speaker:
Jim Carroll, Belknap County Prosecutor, spoke about the Energy Relief Fund that has been created. With the current economy the way it is, more jobs are at risk, and fuel prices that have not been stable. Jim was concerned that there might not be enough resources in the community to help keep everyone warm.
He started a collaborative effort that he is calling the Energy Relief Fund. It is intended to be a resource bank for the organizations in the community that are already providing fuel assistance. When organizations that provide fuel assistance run out of money, the Energy Relief Fund will be there to help. Through other organizations there may be an avenue to help individuals pay for previous fuel bills that are overdue.
The Energy Relief Fund made boxes that look like chimneys and then had children ask
for donations on Halloween (raised around $1000). They subsequently had a bonfire to thank the community and raised an additional $500 plus firewood that was donated. (Jim Fortier cooked the hotdogs at this event).
The Energy Relief Fund has also accepted food donations that were given to St. Vincent DePaul.

Franklin Road Trip:
Warren Mitchell, Kathy Calvin, and Paul Cotton accompanied Lt. Gov Joe Collie on his trip to the Franklin Club. The meeting was at the Franklin Soda Shoppe and there were 6 members of the Franklin Club in attendance. The club, which has 11 members, is very active in the Twin Rivers Community. They host an annual auction at the Franklin Opera House that raises about $2,000 each year. They also host a rabies clinic for people to bring their pets to and have them inoculated. This yields several hundred dollars each year. They are currently gearing up for their Santa gift distribution, which is set for the weekend of December 5th. They also provide gifts for Franklin residents that are in the area's nursing homes. Dan Phelps is the president. He has been the president in three of the last five years. The club meets the first and third Monday of the month at the Soda Shoppe, formerly Weeks and Favorites. They showed the crew from our club a good time and they have been invited to come visit us, which they promise to do.Joe Collie and Dan Phelps, president of Franklin Kiwanis Club.
