Children’s Christmas Party:
Brian Winslow reminds the club that the Children’s Christmas Party will be next Monday, December 8th. Santa will be here and the kids will be treated to a buffet of sliders, chicken fingers, and macaroni and cheese. Also a fruit tray with extra watermelon. Soda and coffee will be on tap. No bar will be served. At press time, Kathy had an RSVP from 15 Kiwanis Kids.

And for the adults…
The bar will be open the following week, December 15th, for the Adult’s Christmas Party and the final Kiwanis meeting of 2008. We will meet at Pheasant Ridge as usual and we will have a Yankee Swap. Please limit your gift to $10-$15. We hope you can join in the fun on the 15th.

Bell Ringing for the Salvation Army:
We will be ringing the bell for the Salvation Army on Tuesday, December 23rd in downtown Laconia. The signup sheet went around this evening and filled up pretty quickly. It is full and on the schedule:

610am- 11am: Dick Metz and Howard Bacon
..11am- noon: Carroll Stafford and Paul Normandin
6 noon- 1pm: .Ed Merski and Larry Murphy

Kiwanis KARES…Kids And Reading Equal Success…
Kathy showed a BIG thank you card we received from the 3rd graders at Elm Street School after our KARES reading and distribution there last month. The next Kiwanis KARES reading and book distribution will be happening on Tuesday, December 16th at Woodland Heights in Laconia. A signup sheet was circulated. Kathy Calvin reports that the next KARES reading after this will be on Monday, January 12th at Elm Street School.

Fund Raising Discussion

Dick Metz presented a plan for a Bike Week Raffle that was drawn up at the fund raising meeting at his house Saturday before last, November 22nd. Kiwanians present included: Larry Murphy, Roger Webster, Dianne Roberts, Ed Chertok, Tom Knox, Ed Merski, Howard Bacon, and Steve Loughlin

Dick presented the following scenarios:

1. Phantom Phenders bike airbrushing

2. Laconia T-Shirt Sale for Harley Davidson of Laconia

3. Restaurant Gift Certificates

4. Donation Barrel for Children of the Lakes Region

All 4 items will be raffled and displayed at our booth during Bike Week, which will run June 12th through 21st . We will advertise the raffle and total expenses should not exceed $1,000 and most of the expense will be advertising.

Don Nelson won $24.

Happy Dollars
Don Nelson gave $4 for winning. Brian Winslow gave 2, one for Larry getting a ticket to a UNH Hockey Game and one for Roger Webster’s son broadcasting the games on radio. Dianne Roberts gave 1 because her son was invited to play with the NH Symphony Orchestra. Joe Collie gave 1 for having a front row seat at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade last week. Tom Knox gave 5 in order to not be announced as the newest member ever again. Howard Bacon gave because he is going to Florida in 5 weeks. Dick Metz gave a buck because Dianne Roberts saw him at the Black Cat…and then kept going. In all, $16 was collected.

 

Fines:
Lori Dickson was pinless. Kathy Calvin was late. Roger Landry was also pinless.

Food Pantry:
The club dug a little deeper and paid $82 for the Food Pantry this month.

Free Meal:
Phil Bonafide.

BOARD meeting minutes...
Kathy Calvin read through the minutes of the meeting of November 3rd. Some of the highlights…

Minutes from the October board meeting were approved
The charity fund was approved as read
The general fund was approved as read
We approved $200 to Lou Athanis Basketball
We approved $49.50 for Dr. Eckels.
$150 was approved to be a rally patron
$250 was approved to cover expenses, as needed, for Lt. Gov. Joe Collie
The Board meeting adjourned at 8:07pm.
